Simple yet functional, that was my vision when I began to put together this build in my head. The fifth generation 4Runner is a sexy beast, even a die hard Nissan guy can admit that, and to top that off it happens to be incredibly capable as well. Being my wife’s daily driver and living so far off grid I wanted to retain as much fuel economy as possible, I also wanted a clean almost factory look.

Starting from the ground up I chose the BFGoodrich KO2, one of the best all around tires available today in my opinion. It’s outfitted with the OEM TRD skids and Relentless Fab Rock Sliders that I picked up used for a great deal. I called upon Toytec Lifts for a Bilstein suspension upgrade all around and topped that off with Timbren Bumpstops. ARB air lockers were the obvious choice to get us in and out of just about anywhere.

Coming off the mountain in the morning and coming home at night it is extremely dark. I did not want a bunch of gaudy LED bars hanging off the rig everywhere and Rago Fabrication solves that problem with their behind the bumper LED brackets. I was able to mount a 30” Baja Designs S8 Light Bar with ease and when it is not in use, you can barely see it. The 20” bar above that is an Amazon special that fit in perfect and provides some additional cool points. To finish off the lighting, Baja Designs Squadron Pros were fitted as fogs and let me tell you these suckers are bright !!

Finishing off the build we needed a clean, easy way to transport our gear. For the interior there is really only one choice IMO - Goose Gear. The Goose Gear plate systems are extremely well crafted and provide almost unlimited configuration of your gear inside. Topping off the rig is the Front Runner Slimline II roof rack, another very versatile addition to the build.

In conclusion I am very pleased in being able to find that balance I was looking for, putting my wife in a badass rig and knowing that she will get many years of use out of it. Hope to see everyone out on the trails and make sure to follow along on Instagram @mountainmanvuk
